When we first developed the idea for Podthreads, we knew that we wanted to support independent podcasters right from the start.
We selected On Being, one of our favourite shows that gives so much to listeners. On Being will receive a part of our profits later this year. Then we'll select a new independent show to support.
The podcasting phenomena continues to grow steadily. And listening to podcasts isn't confined to one or two generations. There are shows for kids, seniors, and everyone in between. There is a podcast show about pretty well every topic you can imagine.
That doesn't mean all the shows are good, or course. But somehow, eventually, the best in each subject is found by listeners, through reviews or recommendations, and their numbers grow steadily.
But back to the topic. Pretty well every major media company has at least one podcast. Podcast production companies have the resources to produce amazing shows.
But for independent producers, it's slim pickings when it comes to attracting support. Sites like Podcorn.com do help, but advertising revenue from clients on Podcorn won't enable an independent producer to transition to making their show a part-time gig, never mind full-time.
One of our founders, Sheelagh Caygill, producers her own independent show, Communicateinfluence.com, and she knows how much work it is. Many independent podcasts are passion projects, delivering superb content with outside no financial support.
If we can help in some small way, with a contribution to independent shows from some of our profits, it'll be very rewarding for us!
So thanks for helping make this possible. When you purchase something from Podthreads, you'll be helping support an really great, independent show.
